Amature to Hobbyist

This all started back when I was running the 3.5 adventure, The Red Hand of Doom, and wanted more engaging maps for my table. At the time, VTTs and map making tools were growing in popularity. So, I went to the internet, stumbled into Dungeondraft, and started making maps. The first few maps were tedious and not great to look at it, but remaking the 20 or so maps for RHoD quickly improved my cartography skills. Enough people enjoyed the maps on the interweb that I opened a Patreon to see if folks would support the time commitment. Turns out, people want revamped battle maps for classic modules.

Three years later, we have a team of five cartographers, eight commissioned scene artists, a composer, a new cartography software in the works, and many classic adventures remade.

CanvasQuest wouldn’t exist without the now hundreds of people supporting, thanks for being awesome!

Alex - CanvasQuest [Taco and Microscope Enthusiast]

How long have you been a GM: I've been running tables of DND and the occasional different game over the last eight years. It's a blast!

Currently Running: Curse of Strahd. Using DMAndy Maps and integrating some of DragnaCarta's Reloaded guide.

Favorite TTRPG: Microscope! This world building game is fast and easy to create a unique world for you and your players. The immersion and connectivity that comes from creating the place, people, issues, history, and future is amazing. Your players will engage with the world immensely more since they had a hand in its making.

What do you want to Run: Call of Cthulhu (gimme the strange and occult)

Fun Facts: I love pumping iron at the gym. Working the body cleanses the mind. I'm a big Stormlight Archive Fan, Brandon Sanderson is the author. Journey before destination :)

Favorite Food: Tacos

$1 Million USD deposits into your bank account overnight: Hmm I'd probably find a low stress creative job. Start expanding my garden. Run 2-3 tables of TTRPG a week. Hit the gym every day with a friend. All the while, making more CanvasQuest content and expanding this project.

Isaac - Dreadpirateusername [Professional DM, Amateur Everything Else]

How long have you been a GM: Technically, I've been running games since I was 8 years old, so about 22 years now. But I only really got going on it about 13 years ago, when I got into Pathfinder 1. Nowadays I spend almost all my time GMing one thing or another.

Currently Running: Ghosts of Saltmarsh (x2), Dungeon of the Mad Mage, Tyrant's Grasp (PF1), 2 Homebrew 5e games, 2 Homebrew Star Wars (FFG/EDGE), and 3 homebrew Pathfinder games.

Favorite TTRPG: That's a tough one! I consider Pathfinder 1e my "native" system, even though I learned one or two simpler ones before I got into it. But I think my favorite system at the moment is FFG/EDGE's Star Wars system. Aside from being an absolute sucker for the setting, I think it strikes just the right balance of depth and simplicity for my tastes.

What do you want to Run: I rarely come across a system I don't want to try, but right now my top 5 list: Shadowrun, Spire, Middle Earth Roleplaying, Cosmere RPG, and I'd love to give a try to one of the original AD&D modules.

Fun Facts: My wife and I keep track of how many board games we play each year. Last year, we played 376 hours of boardgames.

Favorite Food: Right now I'm on a big Tonkatsu kick.

$1 Million USD deposits into your bank account overnight: Do some much-needed repairs on the house, put some raised beds in the garden and add a workshop/garage.

Trent - Lamurette [Foundry and Goblin collector]

How long have you been a GM: I have been a GM for roughly 6 months now, running a home brew game in DND 2024 rules.

Currently Running: Homebrew!

Favorite TTRPG: At the moment DND 2024, it is relatively new to me and interesting.

What do you want to Run: Monster of the week or PF2e on Foundry.

Fun Facts: Fishing, Biking, Family, TTRPG, Programming

Favorite Food: Anything Mexican!

$1 Million USD deposits into your bank account overnight: Go to school and spend time with the family! Eventually get back into engineering work and keeping it simple.

Broccolifun [Nutritious and Cruciferous!]

How long have you been a GM: I started with ADnD 2nd edition in 1995

Currently Running: A 5e homebrew Homage to BG 1 and 2

Favorite TTRPG: DND fan to my core

What do you want to Run: I want to play the new discworld game, where wordplay is more important than swordplay

Fun Facts: I love to travel, I’ve been all over the world and love drawing inspiration from amazing places and points in history

Favorite Food: Broccoli is fun. Broccoli is life. I kid. Actually, I don’t discriminate. I’ve never met a cuisine I didn’t love, nor one that I could commit myself to exclusively. I’m a bit of a food whore.

$1 Million USD deposits into your bank account overnight: I would invest that million dollars in SpaceX stock because goddamnit if some poor African migrant can take nothing but a lifetime of opportunity and privilege and a few measly Mill and become the richest man on the planet, so can I.

Kevin - Irondrake [Cartomancer of the Gloaming]

How long have you been a GM: I have been running tabletop RPGs since 1982.I began online TTRPGs when the earliest online services are available. I ran them on CompuServe (very briefly, this place was expensive!), GEnie, and America Online. On GEnie I was hired by TSR Online as an online convention DM, specializing in Ravenloft games. For those that didn't know, TSR created Dungeons & Dragons and later sold it to Wizards of the Coast.

Currently Running: I am currently running the Kingmaker AP converted to Daggerheart!

Favorite TTRPG: I grew up with D&D, literally...it will always have a special place in my heart. Daggerheart is making a strong case for that #1 slot at the moment though.

What do you want to Run: I am currently running Kingmaker which was a campaign I've had on my list for a very long time. I've dabbled in a lot of different RPGs though, including Call of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds, FFG Star Wars RPG, a 5E Star Wars RPG (Unofficial), and several one shots of many other systems.

Fun Facts: I am a huge animal lover and once volunteered at a refuge for mistreated animals in Las Vegas. Lions, Tigers, Wolves...

Favorite Food: This would have to be Pizza.

$1 Million USD deposits into your bank account overnight: Pay off a little debt, invest a fair amount, build my ultimate gaming room in a new house and most importantly, take care of all of my family as best I could.

Brody - Detaaz [The Rambling Rover]

How long have you been a GM: On and off for the last 5 years.

Currently Running: Nothing (sacré bleu)! Hopefully starting as a player in a Vampire the Masquerade campaign shortly.

Favorite TTRPG: SW5e, the fanmade total conversion of DnD 5e into Star Wars. After all, who doesn't want to be a space wizard with a laser sword?

What do you want to Run: Sacrilegious considering my previous answer but Star Trek Adventures! I've enjoyed the small amount I've dabbled in so far and want to write a full campaign for it at some point.

Fun Facts: I enjoy playing guitar, cooking, and watching films with friends! I also enjoy watching anything competitive; basketball, football (soccer), motorsports, even eSports like Counter Strike.

Favorite Food: I love a good steak pie or mince round on a cold winters night!

$1 Million USD deposits into your bank account overnight: Hide from the tax man! In all seriousness, I'd like to help some family with bills and squirrel the rest away for a rainy day.

T.J. [Composer and Indie Game Enthusiast]

How long have you been a GM: I have been mooching off the good will of my active DM friends.

Currently Running: On Overwatch and Coke Zero

Favorite TTRPG: Shell

What do you want to Run: Shell (I'm stickin' to it)

Fun Facts: I have perfect pitch.

Favorite Food: Burritos

$1 Million USD deposits into your bank account overnight: I buy a storage container home, backpack/travel for a year, then start developing a video game and it's soundtrack.

Bree-Yark!

Who's carrying the ten-foot pole?

Check for traps.

Marching order?

He is the Ancient. He is the Land.

Shun green if you can, but night's good color is for those of great valor.
